Shaker kitchen cabinet doors

A frame around a panel, nothing more.

A shaker door is a flat centre panel set inside a plain frame. We offer it with frames from a classic width to a slim profile, and in a wood-based version that shows the grain.

What a shaker door is

A shaker door is built like a picture frame: two upright stiles and two cross rails hold a flat panel in a groove, five pieces in all. The name comes from the Shakers, a religious community whose furniture followed simplicity, utility and honesty; their flat framed doors are the model for this one.

Materials and finishes

How it is made

Frame and panel can be solid wood, MDF or both, and the same outline can be routed from a single MDF board. The width of the frame sets the character: a wide frame reads classic, a slim one modern.

What we offer

  • Frames from a classic width to a slim profile, chosen when the kitchen is drawn.

  • A wood-based shaker door that shows the grain.

Where it suits

  • Classic and transitional kitchens.

  • Rooms that mix old and new, where a slim frame bridges the two.

  • Kitchens with bar pulls or knobs, which the frame sets off.

Care

  • Wipe with a soft, damp cloth, along the frame and into its inside corners.

  • A soft brush lifts dust from the corner where the frame meets the panel.

  • Dry the door after cleaning, so no water stands in the corners.

Questions about shaker doors

  • What is a shaker cabinet door?

A shaker cabinet door is a flat centre panel held in a frame of two stiles and two rails. Its plain, square frame is what sets it apart from raised panel and moulded doors.

  • Why is it called a shaker door?

The style is named after the Shakers, a religious community known for furniture built on simplicity, utility and honesty. Their cabinets had flat panels in plain rail frames, the outline shaker doors still follow.

  • How wide is the frame of a shaker door?

Shaker frames come in different widths, and QUIX Group offers them from a classic wide frame to a slim one. The width is set when the kitchen is drawn, so it can suit the scale of the room.

  • Are shaker doors made of wood?

Shaker doors can be wood, MDF or both, and QUIX Group offers a wood-based version that shows the grain. The same framed outline can also be routed from a single MDF board.

  • Do shaker doors suit a modern kitchen?

Yes, a shaker door with a slim frame suits a modern kitchen, especially in one colour with simple handles. A wide frame reads more classic, so the frame width decides how modern the kitchen looks.
